Some evidence of the existence of that field of research about are: the existence of some publications, the studies on education of pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers, or the activity of an academic community reflected in the specific treatment of the MTE’s problems in academic events or in the development of events focusing on the mathematics teacher education.
The descriptive phenomenology of that field is defining by its specific objects. In this sense, approaches and research acknowledge some items like: the components of the mathematics teacher knowledge (MTK), the sources of MTK, the strategies of education for teachers of mathematics, or the knowledge of teacher trainers. |

Desde una perspectiva epistemológica se advierte la especificidad del sistema didáctico de la formación del profesor de matemáticas y se logra diferenciar del sistema didáctico de la formación en matemáticas. En este sentido, se reconoce que la educación matemática no logra abarcar los asuntos de la educación del profesor de matemáticas (EPM) y se advierte el surgimiento factual de un nuevo campo de investigación. Algunas evidencias de la existencia de tal campo de investigación son: la presencia de literatura especializada, la realización de estudios sobre la educación inicial y continuada de los profesores de matemáticas, o la actividad de una comunidad académica reflejada en el tratamiento específico en eventos académicos de los problemas de la EPM o en el desarrollo de eventos centrados en la EPM. La identificación de objetos de estudio específicos también define parte de la fenomenología descriptiva del campo. En este sentido, se reconocen planteamientos e investigacionesen torno a, entre otros objetos: los componentes del conocimiento del profesor de matemáticas(CPM), las fuentes del CPM, las estrategias de educación de los profesores de matemáticas, o la formación de los formadores de profesores.
