Con el fin de profundizar en los efectos que tienen los techos verdes en la remoción de CO2 atmosférico, se hizo una revisión de las publicaciones científicas relacionadas con los techos verdes. Se encontraron más de 50 artículos relacionados, siendo Norteamérica y Asia las regiones con mayor producción en ese campo de conocimiento. El mayor número de publicaciones está relacionado con los efectos térmicos de las cubiertas verdes en las edificaciones; en menor porcentaje, se analizan los beneficios urbano-ambientales de los techos verdes; y finalmente, en unos cuantos, se discute la capacidad de absorción de CO2 en techos verdes, a partir de la poca información publicada. A partir de la revisión se propone llenar el vacío importante en investigaciones relacionadas con el efecto de techos verdes en ciudades del neotrópico, y de investigaciones dirigidas a evaluar el secuestro de carbono por parte de éstas cubiertas.
