El artículo forma parte de la investigación Fortalecimiento de la Estructura Ecológica Principal a partir de la identificación y selección de especies para la arborización urbana, que se adelanta en siete (7) ciudades colombianas: Cúcuta, Bucaramanga, Villavicencio, Palmira, Ibagué, Neiva y Popayán. Se presentan los resultados correspondientes a la ciudad de Bucaramanga, lo que incluye, una breve descripción de la arborización actual, los criterios para la selección, y el listado de especies que fueron seleccionadas por fortalecer la Estructura Ecológica Principal (EEP) en sus componentes suelo, agua o fauna; y en algunos casos, porque son especies que con su presencia, incrementan la diversidad biológica de su entorno.
