El presente artículo se pregunta por el dilema de la segunda mitad del siglo XX para el escritor latinoamericano, y para ello retoma a un escritor emblemático, Pablo Neruda. En particular, aborda la cuestión del arte comprometido, una categoría simbólica para el análisis de la obra de Neruda. Finalmente, propone un análisis sobre la diferencia entre la poesía moderna europea y la propuesta poética de Neruda en América Latina.
