In the university context, its importance lies in the formation of conscious citizens committed to environmental preservation.
This presentation is the product of a project designed to promote an environmental culture at the University of Sinú, Cartagena Branch, focusing on solid waste management. It proposes an effective integration of environmental education with legal knowledge, leveraging existing legislation, such as Law 1259 of 2008 and Law 99 of 1993, to support and guide actions in favor of the environment.
It is important to note that this article is the result of a research project that began in late 2024. Therefore, the conclusions presented at this time are provisional. The results will include progress made in the bibliographic review or the state of the art related to the research and presentation topic.
Discussing the environment is essential, especially in a country like Colombia, where the human right to a risk-free, clean, healthy, and sustainable environment is recognized. This right is not only fundamental in itself but also crucial for the exercise of other rights, given its close connection with the right to life, respect for human dignity, and the conservation of nature and ecosystems (United Nations, 2022).

La educación ambiental emerge como un proceso dinámico y continuo que va más allá de la mera adquisición de conocimientos, abarcando la conciencia, los valores y las acciones necesarias para abordar los desafíos ambientales actuales. En el contexto universitario, su importancia radica en la formación de ciudadanos conscientes y comprometidos con la preservación del entorno. Esta ponencia presentada es producto de un proyecto diseñado para promover una cultura ambiental en la Universidad del Sinú, Seccional Cartagena, centrándose en la gestión de residuos sólidos. Proponiendo en el mismo una integración efectiva de la educación ambiental con el conocimiento legal, aprovechando la legislación existente, como la Ley 1259 de 2008 y la Ley 99 de 1993, para respaldar y guiar las acciones en pro del medio ambiente. Es importante señalar que, este artículo nace de un proyecto de investigación que comenzó a finales del 2024. Por lo tanto, las conclusiones presentadas en este momento son provisionales. Los resultados incluirán los avances de la revisión bibliográfica o el estado del arte relacionado con el tema de investigación y ponencia. Discutir sobre el medio ambiente es esencial, especialmente en un país como Colombia, donde se reconoce el derecho humano a un entorno libre de riesgos, limpio, saludable y sostenible. Este derecho no solo es fundamental por sí mismo, sino que es crucial para el ejercicio de otros derechos, dado su vínculo estrecho con el derecho a la vida, el respeto por la dignidad humana, y la conservación de la naturaleza y los ecosistemas (Unidas, 2022).
