A quantitative approach and an ex post facto design were applied, using data from quarterly assessments in Spanish and mathematics, as well as SisAT tests in reading, writing, and mental arithmetic. Statistical analysis was performed with IBM SPSS Statistics. Results and discussion: The findings indicate a significant correlation between reading and writing, while reading shows a positive relationship with academic performance. In contrast, writing and mental arithmetic display low correlations with school grades. These results suggest that strengthening reading skills directly impacts academic achievement, while writing and mental arithmetic require specific pedagogical strategies to enhance their influence on learning. Conclusions: It is concluded that the use of SisAT as an early warning system enables the timely identification of learning difficulties, the design of personalized interventions, and the promotion of students’ comprehensive development, ensuring solid training in basic competencies at the primary education level. |

Introducción: este artículo analiza la relación entre lectura, escritura y cálculo mental en alumnos de educación primaria a partir de los resultados del Sistema de Alerta Temprana (SisAT). El objetivo es identificar cómo estas habilidades se vinculan con el rendimiento académico y aportar evidencias que orienten la práctica docente y la toma de decisiones educativas. Metodología: la investigación se realizó en una escuela primaria de Ciudad Delicias (Chihuahua, México), con una población de 324 estudiantes de primero a sexto grado. Se adoptó un enfoque cuantitativo y un diseño ex post facto, utilizando como fuentes de datos las evaluaciones trimestrales de español y matemáticas, así como las pruebas de lectura, escritura y cálculo mental aplicadas en el SisAT. El análisis estadístico se llevó a cabo mediante IBM SPSS Statistics. Resultados y discusión: los resultados muestran que la lectura y la escritura mantienen una correlación significativa entre sí, mientras la lectura presenta una relación positiva con el rendimiento académico. En contraste, la escritura y el cálculo mental muestran correlaciones bajas con las calificaciones escolares. Estos hallazgos sugieren que fortalecer la lectura impacta el desempeño académico, mientras la escritura y el cálculo requieren estrategias pedagógicas específicas para mejorar su incidencia en el aprendizaje. Conclusiones: se concluye que el uso del SisAT permite identificar dificultades de manera oportuna, diseñar intervenciones personalizadas y promover el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes, para garantizar una formación sólida en las competencias básicas de educación primaria.
