description | Introduction: This study analyzes how language has been configured as both an object of teaching and a means of professional formation in the study programs of Teacher Training Colleges (escuelas normales), through a historical analysis of the archives of the Escuela Normal Rural Ricardo Flores Magón (ENRRFM). It is guided by the research question: How has language been configured as an object of teaching and a means of formation in the study programs of Teacher Training Colleges? Methodology: Following a qualitative and interpretive approach, the research adopts Grounded Theory as its main methodology. Data were gathered through documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews, and were examined using open, axial, and selective coding to identify emerging categories. Results and Discussion: The findings show that conceptions of language have shifted from normative and prescriptive models to more critical, communicative, and sociocultural perspectives. Language is revealed as a tool for literacy, identity, and thinking, as well as a social practice embedded in community contexts. These transformations reflect ideological tensions between homogenizing policies and inclusive approaches. Conclusions: The treatment of language in teacher education programs has not been neutral, but rather a reflection of historical and political tensions. Language has become a transversal axis in teacher education, integrating knowledge, ethics, and social commitment. A historical perspective reveals its role as a political and pedagogical tool for educational transformation, particularly in contexts of linguistic and cultural diversity. |

Introducción: se analiza cómo ha sido configurado el lenguaje como objeto de enseñanza y medio de formación en los programas de estudio de las escuelas normales mediante el análisis histórico del archivo de la Escuela Normal Rural Ricardo Flores Magón (ENRRFM). El estudio parte de la pregunta ¿cómo ha sido configurado el lenguaje como objeto de enseñanza y medio de formación en los programas de estudio de las escuelas normales? Metodología: desde un enfoque cualitativo e interpretativo, se adopta la teoría fundamentada como método de investigación. Se aplicaron técnicas como el análisis documental y entrevistas semiestructuradas, con codificación abierta, axial y selectiva, para identificar las categorías emergentes. Resultados y discusión: la concepción del lenguaje ha transitado desde un enfoque normativo y prescriptivo hacia una visión crítica, comunicativa y sociocultural. Se identifican dimensiones del lenguaje como instrumento de alfabetización, construcción de identidad y pensamiento, así como práctica social situada en contextos comunitarios. Estas transformaciones reflejan tensiones ideológicas entre modelos de homogeneización e inclusión. Conclusiones: el tratamiento del lenguaje en los programas normalistas ha sido históricamente un reflejo de las disputas entre distintas concepciones educativas y políticas, posicionándolo como un eje transversal en la formación docente. Esta mirada histórica permite comprender el papel del lenguaje como herramienta política y pedagógica para una transformación educativa con justicia social, especialmente en contextos de diversidad lingüística y cultural. Introdução: Sinaliza como foi configurada a linguagem como objeto de ensino/matéria nos programas de ensino das escolas normais mediante a análise histórica do arquivo da Escola Normal Rural Raúl Isidro Burgos (ENRRIB). É analisada a configuração da linguagem como objeto de ensino e meio de formação nos programas de estudo das escolas normais. Metodologia: Desde uma abordagem qualitativa e interpretativa, adota-se a teoria fundamentada como método de investigação.
