By giving up to methods as hypnosis and catharsis doors are open to free association, giving birth to the psychoanalysis and to studies such as those that cleared questions referred to the neurosis of the defense. |

Este trabajo investigativo realiza una revisión teórico documental sobre los estudios iniciales de la conversión histérica, partiendo de la investigación de Sigmund Freud, quien para llegar hasta las teorizaciones fundamentales de dicha enfermedad pasa por una serie de situaciones que lo llevan a descubrir más allá de lo que quería encontrar. Sus descubrimientos rebatieron las hipótesis de los médicos de la época, a quienes tienen que enfrentar para defender los nuevos hallazgos: el descubrimiento del inconsciente y las representaciones reprimidas en este, que dieron como resultado, la evidencia de un síntoma conversivo asociado a la sexualidad. Al renunciar a métodos como la hipnosis y la catarsis se abren las puertas a la asociación libre, dando paso al nacimiento del psicoanálisis y a estudios tales como los que despejaron las preguntas referidas a las neurosis de defensa.
