La ciudad de Ibagué cuenta con un déficit de espacio público alto, ya que cuenta con 1.2M2 por habitantes cuando la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) recomienda que sea 15M2 por Habitante, esto se dio por el crecimiento acelerado y no planificado en la ciudad a lo largo de los años, esto lo vemos claramente en la comuna 12, ya que esta comuna fue formada por familias que llegaban poco a poco al sector, por lo tanto este problema da como resultado la carencia de espacios polivalentes y urbanos que ayuden con el espacio público de la ciudad en especial equipamientos deportivos aptos y que cumplan con normativa.
