| Summary: | The city of Villavicencio is the Capital of the department of Meta and the most important
strategic commercial central point of the Eastern Llanos. The Eje Paisajístico Esponja project
was born from the interest and concern of the population about the lack of green areas and public
space in the city, since in Colombia a minimum standard of 9 m2/Hab is established according to
the OMS and in Villavicencio it only has 2.8 m2/Hab according to the IDOM, (Inter-American
Development Bank, 2015) 1
, in addition to evidencing emergencies due to the heavy rains of the year
2010-2011 among others, where the inhabitants suffer from sudden floods, caused by the
overflowing of water bodies. and intrusion of self-built housing settlements on the water circuit,
therefore the urban proposal seeks the growth of the city, which revolves around recreational
activities responding to the sector, generating ecotourism and connection to the Ocoa River.
Where it seeks to solve from a sustainable urban perspective to solve and mitigate the impact
through the Sponge City method.
