Sumario: | Silent violence in a couple represents a conflict of a social and collective nature that
requires research to raise awareness in the community. This study acquires relevance in the
context of Cali, Colombia, where family mediation acts as a bridge between the disagreeing
parties, promoting the capacity for consensus. The challenges of poor communication and
silent violence in a couple manifest themselves in the progressive deterioration of the
relationship, the accumulation of unexpressed resentments, the negative impact on emotional
and mental health during unresolved conflicts, difficulty in making of joint decisions and the
emergence of silent violence because of inefficiency in communication.
The objective of this research article is to address communication conflicts and silent
violence that affect young couples, through family mediation. To do this, the characteristics
of these experiences of violence were identified and the strategies that the couple uses were
explored. before and after mediation and creation of negotiation spaces that facilitate the
consolidation of realistic and adaptable mutually significant agreements and promote the
autonomy of both parties in decision-making.
This research adopted a qualitative approach whose design was a case study using indepth interview as a technique which produced results that were recorded and later
