Sumario: | In the current digital era, social media has become an integral part of teenagers' lives,
playing a significant role in shaping their social identity. This research focuses on analyzing the
impact of social media on the processes of social identity construction in a 16-year-old teenager
from Tuluá. To accomplish this, a systematic review of existing literature was conducted, with
an emphasis on relevant empirical and theoretical studies.
Firstly, the impacts of social media on teenagers were explored, revealing that social
media can influence the formation of social identity and the perception of self-image due to
social comparison and pressure to meet idealized standards online.
Secondly, the effects of social media on teenagers were examined. It was identified that
social media can influence how adolescents establish and maintain social relationships. On one
hand, it facilitates connecting with friends and peers, promoting social engagement and a sense
of belonging. However, it was also observed that social media can lead to situations of social
exclusion and technology addiction, which can have negative consequences on social identity
construction.
In conclusion, this study emphasizes the importance of understanding the impacts of
social media on teenagers from a psychological perspective. The findings reveal that social
media can have both positive and negative effects on their perception of social identity. These
results can be useful for healthcare professionals, educators, and parents in promoting
responsible use of social media and developing appropriate intervention strategies to mitigate
potential side effects on teenagers. |
