El cáncer es la segunda causa de muerte a nivel mundial, debido a que es una patología de carácter multifactorial y por esta razón es necesario investigar sobre diferentes tratamientos que sean más efectivos, entre ellos nos vemos obligados a la búsqueda de nuevas alternativas que nos guíen en este camino. El objetivo de esta revisión es enfatizar sobre la importancia de esta patología, por esta razón el papel que desempeñan los animales es importante en el ámbito científico como modelo ya que las neoplasias son muy comunes en la especie canina. Es por esto que se han buscado avances en diferentes campos terapéuticos con el fin de controlar este tema de salud pública. Las plantas han tenido un valor significativo durante tiempos ancestrales en distintas culturas por tener propiedades medicinales, los cuales según reportes de literatura poseen propiedades citotóxicas sobre distintas líneas celulares como por ejemplo a la MCF-7. Se pueden describir algunas plantas las cuales contienen estos principios activos como el Crotón Lechleri, Heliotropium Indicum y Pterocarpum santalinusLinn.
