Sumario: | Introduction: Preterm delivery (PTB) and Low Birth Weight (LBW) and their consequent
neonatal morbidity and mortality are prevalent health problems of which bacteria involved in the
development of periodontal disease (PD) have been defined to stimulate the release of
prostaglandins, which, in turn, stimulate labor. Objective: To determine the relationship between
periodontal disease and pregnant mothers with preterm delivery and low birth weight of neonates
based on a systematic review of the literature. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive
observational study, for which a systematic review will be carried out in order to provide a
detailed analysis to determine the relationship between periodontal disease in pregnant women
with preterm delivery and low birth weight of the newborns. Results: As a result of the search
process, application of criteria and elimination of duplicates, as well as the evaluation of the
quality of the articles, the final result showed 24 potential articles to develop the research |
