Summary: | According to DANE figures, MSMEs represent more than 90% of the national productive
sector and generate 35% of GDP and 80% of employment in Colombia. (Ministry of Labor,
2019), and yet we are faced with a worrying figure, according to Fundación Universitaria San
Martín (2020) more than 50% of companies close in their first 5 years of operation, and between
20% and 30 % during their first year. In its study Determinants of business survival in Colombia
(2017), Confecámaras reveals that 40% of businesses owned by individuals or Star Ups close
before completing their first year of operation, Carlos León, Director of the Public Accounting
Program and The FUSM research group highlighted that some of the reasons for this scenario to
arise are poor economic and personnel management in MSMEs. |
