Sumario:Objectives: To evaluate the fracture resistance of thermocuring acrylic resins used for the production of prosthetic bases for total prostheses, using metal inserts. Materials and methods: Thirty (30) samples, in heat-curing PMMA, Veracryl referenced VR1 by New Stetic, distributed in three (3) groups of 10 each, identified SR (no reinforcement), RM (mesh reinforcement), RR (grid reinforcement). They were subjected to vertical force on a deflection bench, at a constant force in Kgf, until a fracture was reached. The present study is qualitative in vitro. Results : When comparing the acrylic samples for thermocuring prosthetic base distributed in three groups of the samples in without metallic insert (10), mesh insert (10) and insert with grid (10) and subjecting them to load tests in a deflection bench, it was determined that there is no significant statistical difference because they are out of the range p = 0. 05, in terms of flexural strength, but there were observational differences in structural conservation by the samples with insert (mesh and grid) from those that did not contain them and which were dispersed. Conclusions: It can be concluded, based on the results of the applied statistical tool that the fracture resistance does not present significant differences in the sample groups of the analyzed tests, determining that the samples that contained inserts (mesh and/or grid), compared with those that did not contain any type of insert, the fracture resistance for each one of the samples are not very different, existing slightly superior values in the group without reinforcement.
