Sumario:The proposed research carried out an analysis to better understand the effects of work practice on the family dynamics of the correction officers that are assigned to the penitentiary and prison institutions in Valle del Cauca. The research studied two (2) families that belonged in the National prison and jails as officials, and the other as a correction officer in a regular jail institution for the analysis to surface with a deeper understanding of the effects. Out of the two families, two members of the first family worked in the National prisons and jails, and only one member in the second family worked in a regular jail institution. The study was carried out with a qualitative method, using a (hermeneutic) history approach. This method utilizes semi-structured interviews as an instrument for collecting information. Thus, these interviews helps discover the effects that work practice can generate within the correction officers’ family dynamics. Amazingly after a collection of information, study shows that the work practice effected the officers with an intensified and reiteration of the concept of family. In other words, the idea of family is much more valued compared to the average person.
