Colombia cuenta con condiciones climáticas y de tierras, campos ideales para la producción de cacao de grano fino, suave y un excelente aroma. Por eso, en el mundo y dentro del comercio internacional; este producto especialmente el colombiano es reconocido por ser de gran calidad, así como lo es el Café Colombiano, solamente que el cacao no ha tenido un gran apoyo por parte del gobierno; incentivando la producción, y su procesamiento. Según Procolombia el cacao fino y de aroma, es una categoría que agrupa solo el 5 % del grano mundialmente comercializado (International Cocoa Organization, ICCO). Y en el caso de Colombia este grano es selecto y de uso exclusivo para la elaboración de chocolates finos por su punto de acidez y equilibrio. Por sus cualidades el cacao es un producto en crecimiento constante que ofrece precios atractivos y preferenciales en el mercado internacional. Para el 2015 Colombia había exportado US$74 millones a 33 países, entre ellos: México, España y Estados Unidos. La Intención de éste plan exportador es examinar el mercado actual, su desarrollo, su potencial, la importancia y posibilidades de exportación al mercado objetivo que se concluya, Hoy Colombia cuenta con grandes oportunidades en el mercado internacional, y esta representa una de ellas, y los avances que se han realizado para llevar el a superficies de talla internacional, es una nueva ruta para la asociación de productores, pero es importante aclarar que no solamente es incentivar las relaciones comerciales con otros países, sino también la investigación, la innovación lleve a un desarrollo de productos de calidad el cual represente mayores ventajas con la competencia internacional.
