Summary: | The main objective of this study was to describe the psychosocial effects of gender-based violence on six women from 20 de Julio Street in the Juan XXIII neighborhood of the Buenaventura District. The research used a qualitative approach, and data were collected through an interview guide designed to reveal emotional, behavioral, and cognitive effects. Results indicated that the most common forms of violence experienced by these women were psychological and physical, both having a significant impact on their lives. Emotionally, many participants experienced fear, uncertainty, and low self-esteem; however, some also demonstrated resilience and the ability to rebuild their self-worth. Behaviorally, there was an increase in social isolation, distrust, and defensive attitudes, which limited their ability to form new relationships. Cognitive effects were characterized by an internal struggle between fear of abandonment and acceptance of solitude as a self-protective mechanism. |
