Sumario:Hydroxyapatite is a biomaterial highlighted for its important characteristics of resistance and biocompatibility, which makes it a perfect option for biomedical applications, especially in orthopedic and dental prostheses and implants. Obtaining natural hydroxyapatite has become a great challenge due to its complex obtaining process and the high associated costs. In this work, the design and construction of a mechanical system for obtaining pork bone powder using a milling machine is presented, subsequently a characterization of the powder obtained is made using x-ray diffraction techniques to verify its viability for the hydroxyapatite crystallization and scanning electron microscopy to investigate the morphological properties of the powder. The use of pork bone as a hydroxyapatite precursor can not only reduce costs, but also promote sustainability by taking advantage of waste biological resources.
