Sumario:In Colombia there are 87 indigenous peoples, who speak 64 languages and are distributed, according to the census, in 710 reservations located throughout 27 departments of the country. They are found as minorities that reflect our history and show culture. The department of Huila stands out for having a vast indigenous culture, in which 5 different ethnic groups are currently established. Since the last two decades, some problems have been revived in different indigenous communities due to certain political, social and natural factors, some of these are dispersed migration, acquisition and legalization of land. One of the most emblematic ethnic groups is the Pijao, which is established in the municipality of Timana, where it is known for a representative legend of Huila, such as the Cacica Gaitana. Within this ethnic group are the Cacique Ibanaskue and Santa Bárbara communities located in the Pantanos villages, where different problems have been evidenced that have affected their quality of life.
