Los importantes avances que ha tenido la neurociencia durante las últimas décadas han conllevado a que se replanteen teorías en distintos campos del saber, pues esto ha permitido que se creen tecnologías sofisticadas que permitan obtener imágenes no solo del cerebro, sino también del funcionamiento neuronal en el sistema nervioso central, lo cual hace posible establecer si una persona actúa con libre albedrío o no, o si esa persona es realmente consciente de los actos que realiza en su vida cotidiana.
