En este artículo se estudian las causas del detrimento de las exportaciones de fibra de algodón de la Nueva Granada a la península española durante el último cuarto del siglo XVIII. La hipótesis que comprobamos, por métodos econométricos y cualitativos, es que la debilidad del mercado interno español fue el factor fundamental que explica esta disminución de las exportaciones de algodón de la Nueva Granada.
