description	Because a large part of a country's exports is carried out through maritime transport, ports play an important role in the growth and dynamization of a country's trade. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to examine the export dynamics that the Port of Santa Marta has had during the period corresponding to 2018-2022. Port operations cover a wide range of services in terms of cargo, such as coal, ro-ro cargo, solid bulk, liquid bulk, containers, general cargo and cruise ships. Among the main export items are coal and containerized cargo. For this reason, the port's opportunities are projected towards taking advantage of its competitive and comparative advantages and a strategic geographical position. However, there are challenges that have been established in the rapid development and promotion of the digitalization of processes, as well as in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The trade processes of the Port of Santa Marta frame a varied number of operations that allow the port to be on par with the large maritime terminals in the world and therefore be competitive at the national level, in this context bulk cargo mobility operations containerized and refrigerated become a key factor in the development of the port.

Debido a que una gran parte de las exportaciones de un país se realiza a través del transporte marítimo, los puertos juegan un papel importante en el crecimiento y la dinamización del comercio de un país. Por lo anterior el objetivo principal de este estudio fue examinar la dinámica exportadora que ha tenido el Puerto de Santa Marta durante el periodo correspondiente a 2018-2022. Las operaciones portuarias abarcan una amplia gama de servicios en lo que se refiere a carga, como carbón, carga rodada, granel sólido, granel líquido, contenedores, carga general y cruceros, entre los principales ítems de exportación se encuentran el carbón y la carga contenerizada, por esto las oportunidades del puerto se proyectan hacia el aprovechamiento de sus ventajas competitivas, comparativas y una posición geográfica estratégica, sin embrago hay retos que se han establecido en el desarrollo y promoción rápida de la digitalización de procesos, así como en el uso de las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC). Los procesos de comercio del Puerto de Santa Marta enmarcan un variado número de operaciones que le permiten al puerto estar a la par con los grandes terminales marítimos del mundo y por tanto ser competitivo a nivel nacional, en este contexto operaciones de movilidad de carga a granel, contenerizada y refrigerada se convierten en un factor clave de desarrollo del puerto.
