It concludes that the impact of local product design in Colombian society is an issue that deserves more thorough research, to which a complete survey of companies, designers and production is essential. El artículo hace una revisión de la historiografía del diseño industrial a nivel mundial, latinoamericano y colombiano. En la primera parte presenta un breve recuento de la evolución en las maneras de abordar la historia del diseño industrial, y en la segunda, se relacionan de manera general los distintos enfoques utilizados por los historiadores del diseño (estadounidenses e ingleses principalmente) con algunas de las historias del diseño industrial escritas en América Latina, y específicamente, en Colombia. Se concluye que el impacto en la sociedad colombiana del diseño industrial local, es un tema que amerita investigaciones más profundas, y para lograrlo, es necesario un estudio completo de las empresas, los diseñadores y su producción.
