The approach addressed by this text is to relate acoustic heritage with intangible cultural heritage since the study of the quantifiableacoustic parameters of spaces yield relevant information on the use that communities give to their spaces and consequently the study of a collective inheritance.Due to its dependence on new technologies and its inherently dynamic nature, acoustic heritage has enormous potential to explore. In this context, this article aims to offer a contingent discussion on the need fortheir recognition, their safeguarding, the methodology involved in recording the acoustic heritage of active spaces and the primary role that the community should play in this process. |

A pesar de que no existe una definición formal de Patrimonio acústico comúnmente se describe como aquel patrimonio que contiene los parámetros acústicos cuantificables de los espacios arquitectónicos y arqueológicos del pasado. El principal problema de esta definición radica en que asume una relación directa, muchas veces artificial o innecesaria entre patrimonio acústico y patrimonio arquitectónico. Sin embargo, este artículo pretende disociarlos, proponiendo al patrimonio acústico como un patrimonio independiente. El enfoque propuesto por este texto es el de relacionar al patrimonio acústico con el patrimonio cultural inmaterial ya que el estudio de los parámetros acústicos cuantificables de los espacios arrojan información relevante sobre el uso que las comunidades le dan a sus espacios y en consecuencia al estudio de una herencia colectiva. Debido a su dependencia de las nuevas tecnologías y de su intrínseca naturaleza dinámica, el patrimonio acústico posee un enorme potencial por explorar. En ese contexto este artículo pretende ofrecer una discusión contingente sobre la necesidad de su salvaguarda, la metodología involucrada en el registro de patrimonio acústico de espacios activos y el rol primordial que debe jugar la comunidad en este proceso.
