Muchos estudios se han hecho sobre Simón Bolívar, el hombre, y sobre El Libertador, el héroe, pero poco se ha estudiado y comentado una de las facetas más prolíficas de su vida: su escritura. Entiéndase esta escritura no sólo como el producto de su acción libertadora, sino también como obra estética de carácter literario. En sus proclamas y sus cartas personales se hallan impresos no sólo su pensamiento, luchas, sentimientos y deseos, sino también un estilo nuevo y fresco con respecto a la literatura de su época, lo cual significa que Bolívar fue un verdadero revolucionario en más de un campo.
