Finally, it is formulated an alternative for improving their quality. El presente artículo hace un estudio de lo que es un material plástico reciclado y sus aplicaciones. Se inicia con una revisión del concepto de material plástico, sus propiedades, aspectos y aplicaciones. Adicionalmente, se listan los materiales plásticos más empleados comercialmente y los que se están desarrollando con el fin de reducir el impacto en el medio ambiente. Posteriormente se hace una revisión de las metodologías existentes tanto a nivel mecánico como químico para el procesamiento de los materiales plásticos reciclados, con el fin de obtener objetos de material reciclado, combustibles u otro tipo de plásticos. Finalmente, se hace el planteamiento de una alternativa para el mejoramiento de su calidad.
