description This article summarizes the general findings found in a group of 736 new students in the Pre-Calculus I course at The University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (UPRM), regarding what has been called conceptual and procedural weaknesses, that is, what student should know before studying the topics developed in the Pre-Calculus I course. A general summary of a weekly survey carried out with the collaboration of 13 math professors with this group of students is presented; all those who weekly reported concepts that according to the criteria of each of these professors the student should know or have knowledge of it. All these professors developed the same topics on a weekly basis, since the Pre-Calculus I course was organized under the same academic calendar and following the same base book. This work is part of a first result obtained in the research that is being carried out under the modality of Corequisite Support at the UPRM in the Pre-Calculus I course. This first part will serve as the basis for building a future implementation and investigation of what is found here around each report.

Este artículo resume los hallazgos generales encontrados en un grupo de 736 estudiantes de nuevo ingreso al curso de Precálculo I en la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Mayagüez (UPRM), en cuanto a lo que se ha llamado debilidades conceptuales y procedimentales, es decir, a lo que el estudiante debería saber antes de entrar en contacto con la temática a desarrollarse en el curso de Precálculo I. Se presenta un resumen general sobre un sondeo semanal realizado con la colaboración de 13 docentes del área de matemáticas con este grupo de estudiantes, quienes semanalmente reportaron todos aquellos conceptos, que, según el criterio de cada uno de estos docentes, el estudiante debería saber o tener conocimiento de ello. Todos estos docentes desarrollaron las mismas temáticas semanalmente, pues el curso de precálculo I se organizó bajo el mismo calendario académico y siguiendo el mismo libro base. Este trabajo hace parte de un primer resultado obtenido en la investigación que se está realizando bajo la modalidad de “CorequisiteSupport” en la UPRM en el curso de Precálculo I. Esta primera parte servirá como base para construir una futura implementación e investigación de lo encontrado acá alrededor de cada reporte.
