El modelo a escala sigue siendo—a pesar de la masificación de las tecnologías digitales—el medio de representación tridimensional más solicitado a los estudiantes en las facultades de arquitectura de Colombia; sin embargo, su concepción netamente moderna (blanca, limpia, pura, ideal) se opone a la enseñanza de una teoría de diseño que proclama tener en cuenta el lugar, el contexto, la tradición y la tecnología propios de la cultura local, sin duda coloridos, pintorescos, poéticos y artesanales. El artículo hace una reflexión de cómo esta paradoja contradice el propósito mismo de la maqueta durante la época de formación y, del mismo modo, por qué deja la materialización del objeto en la vida práctica a merced de una destreza que nunca se formó en la universidad.
