El artículo presenta resultados específicos de investigaciones adelantadas a lo largo de más de veinte años por varios investigadores el Instituto Smitsonian de Investigaciones Tropicales, en relación con algunas de las aves que migran de norte a sur América a través del istmo de Panamá; y haciendo énfasis en tres especies de rapaces: el gallinazo cabecirrojo o noneca Cathartes aura, el gavilán aludo Buteo platypterus, y el gavilán de Swainson Buteo swainsoni; que en su migración al sur utilizan un corredor biológico que se extiende a lo largo de la costa del Pacífico en Panamá, y que incluye a la Ciudad de Panamá.
