For the development of the research, a descriptive and exploratory scope was used, due to the limited research available in the sector. A methodology with a qualitative and quantitative approach is proposed, in which data transformation and analysis techniques were used to obtain more detailed information about the sector. Key words: Biodiesel, export, market opportunity, demand, production costs.

Key words: Biodiesel, export, market opportunity, demand, production costs. la presente monografía de investigación se enfocó en un estudio del sector del biodiesel, el cual es un combustible de origen vegetal que contribuye al desarrollo sostenible y sustituye a los combustibles fósiles, el objetivo principal de la investigación fue realizar un diagnóstico del sector del biodiesel en Colombia para el posible fortalecimiento de las capacidades exportadoras, analizando su marco normativo, proceso de producción, costos, destinos de exportación y oportunidades de mercado. Para el desarrollo de la investigación se empleó un alcance de tipo descriptivo y exploratorio, debido a la poca investigación con la que cuenta el sector. Se plantea una metodología con enfoque cualitativo y cuantitativo, en el cual se utilizaron técnicas de transformación y análisis de datos, para obtener una información más detallada del sector.
