Los adultos mayores enfrentan dos importantes retos globales que tienen que ver con el deterioro de la salud debido a los efectos del envejecimiento y la exclusión por parte del estado, la falta de oportunidades y sus familiares, a esto debemos incluir el desarrollo de la vivienda que conforma la ciudad que se construye y se concibe de manera espontánea y empírica además del otro caso de la vivienda colectiva planificada proveniente del impacto y nuevas necesidades que surgen a partir de la revolución industrial el movimiento moderno y el higienismo; son propuestas y procesos habitacionales que no lograron prever en el diseño los cambios que las personas experimentan a través del tiempo, por lo tanto han debido adaptar la vivienda de acuerdo a sus necesidades, pero no lograron cambiar el entorno.
