El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo analizar el impacto que genera el método heurístico de Lakatos en la educación matemática. Concretamente, se obtuvieron resultados importantes al considerar dicha heurística junto con la resolución de problemas retadores como metodología en un curso de matemáticas discretas para estudiantes de ingeniería de sistemas y licenciatura en matemáticas. Se lograron resultados en cuanto a la implicación de la heurística en el desarrollo del pensamiento matemático, en la actitud del estudiante, en la construcción de demostraciones matemáticas y como herramienta eficaz para la resolución de problemas.
