Melgar has been building its tourist identity, since after the arrival of tourist facilities, hotels and restaurants, many of its inhabitants left the countryside and dedicated themselves to take advantage of the commercial demands of the new tourism, while others sold their land to outside investors who saw the vacation potential of the region. El municipio de Melgar a lo largo de los años se ha convertido en un destino turístico reconocido a nivel nacional, a pesar de que la planificación fue poco ortodoxa, Este se ha desarrollado de manera óptima debido a su localización estratégica, sus condiciones climáticas, paisajes y a los espacios de recreación y reposo que ofrece. Melgar ha estado construyendo su identidad turística, ya que luego de la llegada de equipamientos turísticos, hoteles y restaurantes, muchos de sus habitantes dejaron el campo y se dedicaron a aprovechar las demandas comerciales que implica el nuevo turismo, otros por su parte vendieron sus tierras a inversionistas externos que vieron el potencial vacacional de la Región.
