Summary: | Chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the result of
interaction of genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors and are generally
of long evolution, treatable, but not curable. Among these diseases are
cardiovascular, metabolic, respiratory and diabetes. (1) According to the figures
published by the World Health Organization (WHO), this type of
diseases in the world affect around 41 million people causing
mortality, corresponding to 71% of deaths globally each year. (1 of
these, cardiovascular diseases constitute the majority of deaths,
being 17.9 million per year, followed by cancer with 9 million, the
respiratory diseases with 3.9 million and diabetes with 1.6 million. |
