En los países Latinoamericanos y el Caribe la autoconstrucción o asentamientos informales son unas de las principales problemáticas, donde se evidencia que sus índices de habitabilidad no son óptimos, además respecto a los procesos de urbanización se observa un crecimiento no planificado y actualmente no se ha logrado responder a las tendencias urbanas insostenibles, donde se generan cambios y problemáticas en los patrones persistentes de desigualdad, inequidad y exclusión(Torres & Guerrero, 2008; Villatoro et al, 2017).
