Similarly, informal settlements have generated a habitat with characteristics of segregation and poverty; In addition, they present situations of irregularity, illegality and informality, by occupying spaces that are generally not urbanized or peripheral areas, in which they do not have access to basic services such as drinking water, sewage, electricity and gas natural. Durante años, los asentamientos informales de vivienda han sido un problema urbano de carácter mundial; cabe resaltar, que dicha problemática tiene gran presencia en los países de Latinoamérica, pues debido al desorden en la planificación de las ciudades, la población vulnerable encuentra la oportunidad para apropiarse de algunos terrenos ilegalmente y autoconstruir en ellos para satisfacer las necesidades básicas de sus familias. De igual manera, los asentamientos informales han generado un hábitat con características de segregación y pobreza; además, presentan situaciones de irregularidad, ilegalidad e informalidad, al ocupar espacios generalmente no urbanizados o zonas de periferia, en los cuales no tienen acceso a servicios básicos como agua potable, alcantarillado, electricidad y gas natural.
