Summary: | Currently, there is a greater number of contact lens users who require systems for cleaning them in order to avoid potential risks associated with their use due to the vulnerability of the human eye. Objective: To analyze the biocidal effectiveness of multipurpose cleaning solutions for soft contact lenses. Methodology: Literature review of English and Spanish articles in databases such as Scopus, MEDLINE PubMed between 2015 and 2021. NLM, LILACS and Results: A total of 77 articles were evaluated, 25 were considered because they met the inclusion criteria. It was established that the biocidal effectiveness of solutions for cleaning contact lenses that are mainly found on the market are Polyhexamethylen e biguanide (PHMB), Polyaminopropylene biguanide (PAPB), Polyquaternium1 (POLYQUAD), Hydrogen Peroxide, Polyvinylpyrrodone (PVP) with a high antimicrobial level and Trimetropin with a less effective response. Conclusions: The solutions for cleaning hydrop hilic lenses with the active principle of hydrogen peroxide are more effective due to their high duration in disinfection, while Trimetropin has minimal or no effectiveness against different microorganisms. |
