With the objective of exploring whether its application responds to the purpose of being a responsible company or is a strategy for competitiveness. The methodology used was based on a literature review with SPSM management reports, books and secondary information sources. The results show that, in the market, companies are beginning to adopt CSR as part of their business strategies, given the obligation to integrate into society in order to establish a better environment to operate competitively. The conclusion shows how SPSM through CSR has been implementing a strategy of competitive advantage in the short and long term, of permanence of the company in the market, a strategy masked in the social commitment to society.

Este trabajo propone analizar teóricamente Responsabilidad Social Empresarial (RSE) como estrategia de competitividad de la empresa Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta (SPSM). Con el objetivo de explorar si su aplicación responde al propósito de ser una empresa responsable o es una estrategia para la competitividad. La metodología utilizada se fundamentó en una revisión bibliográfica con los informes de gestión de SPSM, libros y fuentes de información secundaria. Los resultados muestran que, en el mercado las empresas comienzan a adoptar la RSE como parte de sus estrategias empresariales, ante la obligación de integrarse a la sociedad con el fin de establecer un mejor entorno para operar competitivamente. La conclusión muestra como SPSM a través de la RSE ha venido implementando una estrategia de ventaja competitiva en el corto y largo plazo, de permanencia de la empresa en el mercado, estrategia enmascarada en el compromiso social con la sociedad.
