Description
Summary:The aim of this project was to demonstrate the efficacy of the molecule Isopropyl myristate (MIST®) with 70% myristate and 30% alcohol, to control and prevent flea infestation in domestic dogs. 12 dogs were recruited, of which only 6 were eligible for the study. These dogs were mainly cross breed , between 1 and 10 years of age. Both, females and males that were naturally infested with fleas, all healthy and without any alteration to the clinical examination or dermatological examination were recruited. Taking into account the above, each dog was placed in individual caniles fully lined with white contact paper to avoid the escape of fleas, all provided with water and food at will, being studied for a period of 8 hours, performing the manual count of live fleas before and after the application of the product, which was in sprays throughout the animal's body. The formula used to know the percentage of efficacy was 100 x Mc-Mt/mc according to the guidelines of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP), which was 100% in all dogs participating in the study. In addition, each of the dogs with a live flea count was followed at 24 hours, 48 hours, 8 days, and one month after treatment, with no side effects on skin or animal health
