All the participants reported a problematic consumption of psychoactive substances and were in-patients. This study was carried out as a descriptive, quasi-experimental model and the results were obtained from the correlation of the application of a sociodemographic survey and the automatic thought inventory instrument of Ruiz and Lujan (1991). It was showed that the population under study presented levels of cognitive distortion depending on the sociodemographic characteristics, showing that heteronomy and the external locus of control are part of the cognitive and ideational repertoire of patients who consume psychoactive substances, which leads them to avoid introspection and self-criticism

La totalidad de los participantes refieren un consumo problemático de sustancias psicoactivas y se encuentran bajo la modalidad de internado; este estudio se realizó como un modelo cuasiexperimental, descriptivo y los resultados se obtuvieron de la correlación de la aplicación de una encuesta sociodemográfica y el instrumento de inventario de pensamientos automáticos de Ruiz y Lujan (1991). Se evidenció que la población objeto de estudio presentó niveles de distorsión cognitiva en función de las características sociodemográficas, demostrando que la heteronomía y el locus de control externo hacen parte del repertorio cognitivo e ideacional de los pacientes consumidores de sustancias psicoactivas, lo que los lleva a evitar la introspección y la autocrítica.
