El modelo a escala sigue siendo—a pesar de la masificación de las tecnologías digitales—el medio de representación tridimensional más solicitado a los estudiantes en las facultades de arquitectura de Colombia; sin embargo, su concepción netamente moderna (blanca, limpia, pura, ideal) se opone a la enseñanza de una teoría de diseño que proclama tener en cuenta el lugar, el contexto, la tradición y la tecnología propios de la cultura local, sin duda coloridos, pintorescos, poéticos y artesanales.
