En Colombia, debido a que los sistemas productores de ganado bovino se encuentran retirados de las instalaciones dispuestas para el sacrificio de estos animales, requieren necesariamente ser transportados vía terrestre desde estas zonas productoras hasta las centrales de beneficio, lo que lleva a estos animales a desafiar largos periodos de viaje en los cuales influyen diferentes condiciones o factores negativos que les genera estrés, afectando así el bienestar y salud animal, cantidad e inocuidad de la carne, y como resultado a todos estos efectos se produce una gran pérdida económica para la industria cárnica.
