No obstante de encontrarse en cuarta línea de incidencia, con respecto al cáncer de seno, tiroides y colorrectal, es considerado como la mayor causa de muerte por cáncer. En Colombia el alto número de casos lo sitúa como una causa importante de muerte en mujeres a pesar de las estrategias utilizadas para su prevención y tratamiento.
