La etapa preescolar quizás es el momento más crucial del desarrollo integral del niño. A esta edad, los sentidos, tanto externos, vista, audición, tacto, olfato, gusto, como internos, es decir los que se activan sin relación directa con otros objetos, se ven estimulados siempre y se encuentran en plena fase de maduración, por lo que requiere la manipulación dirigida de objetos para desarrollar su motricidad. Puesto que los niños tiene la posibilidad de desarrollar diversas habilidades que se van favoreciendo a medida de que va creciendo el desempeño motriz se refiere a la habilidad que pueden tener los infantes al momento de realizar movimientos pequeños y grandes como gatear ,agachar correr y caminar etc. La motricidad fina comprende movimientos más precisos como lo es de armar, doblar papel, colorear, cortar estos movimientos son realizados a través de la mano con la coordinación óculo-manual.
