El entorno industrial es cada vez más exigente, las empresas afrontan cambios constantes a los cuales se tienen que adaptar para mantenerse dentro del mercado. Además, con la globalización de los mercados y el avance de las tecnologías de información y comunicación (TIC’s). Por tal motivo, se identifica un gran interés entre los gerentes en elevar sus esquemas de calidad, ser más competitivos y así conservarse en el mercado. Se ha demostrado que las empresas que no se adaptan permanentemente a los requerimientos y necesidades de su entorno no logran el éxito, incluso llegan a perecer con el tiempo. Al determinar sus falencias y trabajar en función de solucionarlas antes que los efectos sean inevitables, así como establecer las oportunidades y tomar ventaja para su beneficio, esto debería ser una pericia constante en las industrias. Por lo tanto, la mejora continua y excelencia operacional en los procesos no es debería ser opcional, es imperativa, ya que cuando se habla del término mejoramiento rápidamente se vincula con la gestión de calidad.
