(Aguirre, Sebastián 2019) El sector de alimentos para caninos ha evidenciado un significativo avance de acuerdo los datos que menciona Euromonitor en su informe del periodo 2019 donde explica que el incremento de la economía de la industria se debe principalmente a la creciente percepción de las mascotas como un miembro más de la familia, que ha llevado a que los hogares se preocupen más por su cuidado, y así lo reflejan en su consumo de productos dirigidos a los animales. Pese a las incertidumbres económicas y políticas, el interés por proveerles a las mascotas un cuidado adecuado se ha interiorizado en la cultura de las familias colombianas, debido a que los dueños se quieren asegurar de que sus acompañantes estén felices y saludables mediante productos de calidad.
