Science Direct, Springer Link, SciElo, academic Google, ELSEVIER, University database
Antonio Nariño, and database of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, 48 articles related to the
topics were obtained, of which 17 reported prevalences of periodontal disease in South America,
and associated risk factors in periodontal disease, published between 2006 and 2019. |

La enfermedad periodontal es una enfermedad inflamatoria crónica del periodonto y su estado avanzado se caracteriza por la pérdida del ligamento periodontal y la destrucción del hueso alveolar circundante. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal en América del Sur en adultos de 20-60 años de edad, según revisión de la literatura. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó la búsqueda de artículos indexados relacionados con los temas prevalencia de enfermedad periodontal y factores de riesgo asociados en 8 plataformas biomédicas como Pubmed, Science Direct, Springer Link, SciElo, Google académico, ELSEVIER, base de datos de la Universidad Antonio Nariño, y base de datos de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, se obtuvieron 46 artículos relacionados con los temas, de los cuales 17 reportaron prevalencias de enfermedad periodontal en Suramérica, y factores de riesgo asociados en enfermedad periodontal, con publicación entre los años 2006 y 2019.
