municipality of Sotará -Cauca. The methodology used was the taking of 60 stool samples
directly from the rectum of the animal belonging to the selected population, where the collected
samples were analyzed using the McMaster and Flotation chamber tests in order to identify the
most frequent endoparasites; In addition, the visual inspection of the entire body surface,
extracting the parasite using a forceps without a mouse tooth and collecting it in an appropriate
container for the identification of ectoparasites in these specimens, in this way, the results were
correlated with age, sex and race , where it was possible to conclude that the most frequent
internal parasites were four nematodes Trichostrongylus, Haemonchus, Neoascaris and
Cooperia, a cestode: Moniezia and a protozoan: Eimeria and the ectoparasites were the chewing
louse Bovicola and the false tick Melophagus. |

Las enfermedades parasitarias son un problema sanitario a nivel mundial afectando la salud y bienestar de la especie ovina, alterando los parámetros productivos normales que afectan el crecimiento y desarrollo de los corderos, así disminuyendo la ganancia de peso y reduciendo su desempeño reproductivo, lo que causa pérdidas económicas de gran impacto y de importancia en los sistemas de producción, por ello en el año 2020 se realizó en el municipio de Sotará un estudio que tenía como objetivo: La caracterización de parásitos gastrointestinales y externos en ovinos en tres fincas del municipio de Sotará-Cauca. La metodología que se empleó fue la toma de 60 muestras coprológicas directamente del recto del animal pertenecientes a la población seleccionada, donde las muestras recolectadas fueron analizadas mediante las pruebas de cámara McMaster y Flotación con la finalidad de identificar los endoparásitos más frecuentes; además la inspección visual por toda la superficie corporal, extrayendo el parasito mediante una pinza sin diente de ratón y recolectándolo en un recipiente apropiado para la identificación de ectoparásitos en estos ejemplares, de esta manera, los resultados fueron correlacionados con la edad, sexo y raza, donde se pudo concluir que los parásitos internos más frecuentes fueron cuatro nematodos Trichostrongylus, Haemonchus, Neoascaris y Cooperia, un cestodo: Moniezia y un protozoario: Eimeria y los ectoparásitos fueron el piojo masticador Bovicola y la garrapata falsa Melophagus.
